Music Plays from CD-ROM Drive with No Audio Cable Installed

When you put a CD-ROM in a CD-ROM drive that you usually use for data CD-ROMs, you may notice that the CD-ROM plays the sound files on that CD-ROM even though there is not an audio cable attached to that CD-ROM drive. This behavior can occur if your sound card driver supports Digital Audio Extraction functionality.

To work around this behavior, disable the Digital CD Audio feature in the properties of the CD-ROM drive:

• Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
• Double-click System, click the Device Manager tab, and then double-click CDROM to expand the branch.
• Click to highlight the CD-ROM drive, click Properties, and then click the Properties tab.
• Click to clear the Enable Digital CD Audio check box, click OK, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.
